Yugean Jhung

Yugean Jhung(Yujin Jung/b.1990) is a fashion creative and designer from Seoul, South Korea. She graduated in 2017 from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam with a bachelor’s degree in fashion design. Yugean's work is often fueled by childhood nostalgia and her social observations of her surroundings having lived in the UK, the Netherlands and South Korea. She channels different perspectives of the world through clothing and the use of hand-drawn prints.

 

Yugean's design aesthetic is colourful with references to childhood and innocence. Her motto is “never get old, keep on dreaming”--stemming from her observations of how many people choose to adapt to a more “mature” and boring wardrobe as they age to please societal expectations of a certain image. She believes that no matter how old you are, you should never stop channelling who you want to be. Yugean's garments are also ethically and sustainably produced: made with vintage fabrics in limited quantities and sewn with love by the designer herself.
